How is your sacred attention faring? Here we are in a carnival of distractions, and I hope you can harness your wholehearted intention in spite of it.
It's been well over a week since I logged onto social media or scanned the headlines. Amazing quiet. AND no question, even just the bits that have seeped through the cracks can feel incredibly disheartening.
But I have also felt, day by day, the return of a deeper, familiar knowing, and a strengthening of purpose. Of course, I will eventually fall back into the news cycle habit and grief/rage/doom-scrolling, but now my mind knows there is something peaceful and true I can find my way back to when the swirl becomes just too much.
About Focus in the Month Ahead
Today's new moon/eclipse heralds the beginning of the Fall season. Astrological and real-world portents tell us that, in this time, it's important to keep our concentration sharp and remember who we (truly) are: earth-creatures woven into deep kinship with the single breathing whole of life.
Above all, it is time to focus unwavering dedication on the "Good Reality." I do not mean this as a bypass-y suggestion, but as a call for radical reclaiming of where we place our gaze and what we devote our labors to. It's all too easy to fall under the thrall of the loudest version of the world, but that doesn't have to be the only story we tell about ourselves.
In fact, there is a powerful life-affirming truth rising up through the pavement. It is up to us to train our gaze and efforts toward what ecospiritual scholar Thomas Berry called the New Story. We must do this despite the aggressive (inner and outer) story-spinners who keep grabbing the mic.
In the Lunar Tale of Now...
Our heroes have become disoriented by a thick mist. They have lost sight of their good green path. But it is when they tune their attention toward something absolutely real (the murmuring stream) that the skies clear. **Even one true thing can guide us back.** I explore these themes further in this month's Lunar Tales video.

In the dream of the Focus Moon, a mist rises up from the forest floor. Phantasms and strange voices whisper in the fog, calling us back toward the comforting illusion of Business as Usual.
The swirl of confusion is thick and we strain to see our good green path.
In the distance, a soft murmuring brings memories of the meandering silver stream we followed in the early moons of Spring. We track the sound of water with singular awareness, and are soon walking underneath a dazzling sky and weaving a joyful path along the riverbank.
And are we the warp and weft of an emerging world?And does our bright dedication burn away the mists?
